Launch Pad is an exhibition of ‘conceptual haute couture’ by Kat Pengelly, who uses sculptural and imagemaking processes to create artful outfits.
Kat Pengelly is a Ballarat-based artist who has established a reputation for innovative work over the past 15 years. Her work is often related to performance and is frequently wearable, eye catching and thought- provoking. Hair, make-up, choreography, music, sound, lights, film and photo are additional elements factored into the overall artistic expression. Her productions have amused, shocked and pleased those who have come into contact with them.
Pengelly creates a range of outfits as she would a series of paintings; selecting a theme and colour scheme for each collection which creates a narrative for the observer. By employing the medium of fashion Pengelly is able to take her art to the streets and present her creations to a greater audience.
Having dipped her toe into the art of shoe making last year, on a course run by internationally acclaimed shoe-makers Prescott and Mackay of London, Pengelly revealed her first pair of shoes in Launch Pad.
