KOSHKA – Art Fuelled Fashion

Kat Pengelly – The Lady Behind the Label

Artist first, fashion designer second
Kat Pengelly creates wearable art. Her label ‘Koshka’ is a creative force of Art Fuelled Fashion.
With a background in Fine Art, Kat’s fashion collections enter the world via art galleries and theatres. Her artistic label was unleashed at the Art Gallery of Ballarat with a solo show and performance called Launch Pad. A capacity crowd was in attendance and the gallery acquired one of Kat’s garments for their permanent collection.
Kat’s artful fashion incorporates sculptural and image making processes and are often presented as performance art. She finds straight forward fashion parades a tad boring and prefers creating Fashion Concept Shows which are more akin to cabaret. Kat is a master at pulling together exceptional teams to realise her visions; from film makers and performers to script writers and scientists. The collaboration required to execute such events is a source of inspiration for her.
A successful applicant of many grants, Kat has received significant funding from the Regional Arts Fund, administered by Regional Arts Victoria to produce her shows called Feeling the Ceiling – Fashion for Rock Climbers (2011) and Fashion for Funerals – Putting the FUN into Funerals (2015). Both of these performances were premiered at the Nati Frinj Biennale. Fashion for Funerals went on to become a featured event for the Art Gallery of Ballarat’s major exhibition Romancing the Skull  (2017).
Kat is in the scheming stages of another unlikely fashion fusion called TRUCK.
Inspired by trucks and war, Kat is a trucker’s daughter whose dad is also a Vietnam Veteran.
TRUCK will pay homage to her dad by creating a compelling biography of a trucker’s and soldier’s life.
A fuelled-up fashion parade geared to educate the audience on Australia’s Trucking Industry that’s interwoven with historical and cultural references to the Vietnam War. The concept has the backing of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia Victorian Branch who will promote the show nationally through their networks as a worthy event casting light on the enduring impact of war on veterans, their families and the community.
Following Kat’s winning formula of fashion theatre; TRUCK is set to be a hugely entertaining and profoundly significant fashion concept show.
Investors now be considered.
Keep on Truckin’!
